Books in Review New book on gold investing

Looking to make more money from gold investments? You might do worse than read a new book on the subject, The Complete Book of Gold Investing, by Jeffrey A. Nichols.

The book is published by Dow Jones-Irwin, of Homewood, Illinois, 60430, and can be bought for $24.95 (US).

The author, who is president of NewYork-based American Precious Metals Advisers Inc., says his aim is to provide a practical and sophisticated guide to gold investment and trading, understandable and usable for both beginners and professionals alike.

Insofar as anyone can simplify such a complex subject, Mr Nichols appears to succeed in his aim.

He provides a comprehensive explanation of the “tools” of the trade necessary for successful gold investment and trading, details fundamental analysis (the study of gold supply and demand factors), explores the relationship between gold prices and the economy, and reviews technical or “chart” analysis, or how past prices provide clues to the future.

There is very little Mr Nichols overlooks in this 254-page volume. About 100 pages for instance are devoted to a review of the many gold instruments now available, such as bullion coins, physical metal, “paper” gold programs, gold mining equities, futures and options.

The book is new, so can lay claim to being a definitive overview of recent trends in the gold market. It’s a recommended addition to any investor’s library.
