A total of 35,000 ft of surface diamond drilling has been completed this year by Newhawk Gold Mines on its Sulphurets project north of Stewart, B.C. The company recently obtained approval to increase its interest in the project to 60% by issuing Lacana Mining four million shares for its share of the project.
The underground decline has advanced 514 ft, some 135 ft of drifting has been completed in high grade ore and 57 ft of raising on high grade material as well. The 15,000-ft underground drilling program will commence as soon as the decline has been completed. The overland access route from Hwy 37 is almost complete and the first permanent camp units should arrive shortly.
Some exceptionally high grade results were recently returned from the West Hill zone, including 18.6 ft of 1.0 oz gold and 10 ft of 9.7 oz. Other results included 11 ft of 1.4-oz gold and 10.9 ft of 6.3 oz. The current program is scheduled for completion at the end of February. Work will continue throughout the winter, says Newhawk.
