Trail smelter problem

A problem at one of Cominco Ltd.’s zinc roasters at Trail, B.C., has resulted in a mechanical breakdown. The failure will put the roaster out of service for about a week, resulting in the loss of 2,000 tons of production, the company says.

The breakdown comes at a poor time for Cominco which must still proceed with a planned shutdown of the zinc plant in July in order to repair roasters and stacks.
