Strike at Doyon

The 380 hourly workers at the Doyon gold mine in northwestern Quebec recently went on strike. Joint owners of the mine are LAC Minerals (TSE) and Cambior (TSE). The mine, a former open pit operation which now produces from underground workings, produced 234,690 oz. in 1989 and 278,314 oz. in 1988. The mine’s cash production cost last year equalled US$234 per oz. and in 1988, US$214.
