A new study dealing with the occurrence of kimberlites and related rocks in British Columbia, Bulletin 88 identifies a previously poorly documented alkaline igneous province in the Canadian Cordillera.
It comprises carbonatites, nepheline and sodalite syenites, some ijolite-series rocks, one known kimberlite and numerous ultramafic and lamprophyric diatreme breccias, all of which intrude the Cordilleran miogeoclinal succession prior to deformation and metamorphism associated with the Jura-Cretaceous Columbian orogeny. Prior to this study, documentation of carbonatites, syenite gneisses and alkaline ultramafic diatreme breccias was limited to studies of a few complexes and brief descriptions of others. This report is the result of field work and research carried out during the period 1984-1990.
