St. Jude expands oxides at Goulagou

Vancouver — Drill results from St. Jude Resources‘ (SJD-V) Goulagou property in Burkina Faso indicate a potentially minable bulk-tonnage oxide resource.

Situated 100 km west of the capital, Ouagadougou, the property was previously worked by Channel Resources (CHU-V) in partnership with Placer Dome (PDG-T).

Recent drilling in the oxide zone returned 32 metres grading 2.02 grams gold per tonne, 26 metres of 2.16 grams gold, 34 metres of 1.66 grams, and 45 metres of 1.6 grams.

Meanwhile, the GG2 zone has been traced over a strike length of 1.6 km. Holes 56-79 returned 18 significant intersections from separate holes, most of which are within 50 metres of surface.

At another zone, GG1, drilling is determining the extent of the mineralization. Holes 80-113 returned 12 significant intersections near the surface.

Baseline engineering studies are under way in anticipation of a feasibility study. Previous metallurgical tests on oxide samples from the GG2 zone resulted in recoveries of up to 95% gold.

The oxide ore may be amenable to heap leaching, in which case the company may buy a partially refurbished heap-leach gold plant capable of producing up to 120,000 oz. per year.

In 1999, the preliminary inferred resource for the GG1, GG2, Rounga and Sobona North zones totalled 774,700 oz. gold.

The company is spending $1.5 million on current drilling and will spend as much on engineering studies.
