Drilling of the West Tiriganiaq zone has expanded the zone’s strike length to at least 500 metres. Highlights include an intersection grading 11.14 grams gold over 6.83 metres; in another hole, two intercepts were hit, one of which returned 10.58 grams gold over 3 metres, and the other, 7.85 grams over 1.5 metres. These intercepts occurred 424-524 metres down-hole.
The holes are 100-metre stepouts from previous holes. The West Tiriganiaq zone is a deeper western extension of the main zone and is 600 metres to the west. Drilling is ongoing on 100-metre centres.
Two holes tested the eastern boundary of the main Tiriganiaq zone at medium depth. Assays from just one of these — 7.9 grams gold over 1 metre — have been received.
The Tiriganiaq zone was last estimated to have an indicated resource of 5.21 million tonnes grading 7.7 grams gold per tonne, or 1.29 million oz. The inferred resource at that time was 7.14 million tonnes grading 6.1 grams gold (1.4 million oz. gold).
Gold mineralization is associated with sheared, quartz-veined, sulphidized iron formation, sedimentary and mafic volcanic rocks near the southern edge of the Pyke fault.
In 2003, crews drilled 5,420 metres in 19 holes at the Tiriganiaq zone. About one third of this year’s assays have been received.
