Organizers of Discover Mongolia 2005 are getting ready to host the third mining conference held in the country in three years. The conference is slated for Sept. 14-16 in the capital of Ulaanbataar.
Mongolia is undergoing a mineral exploration boom following the recent discovery of Ivanhoe Mines’ massive Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold deposit. The government is trying develop its remaining mineral endowment by luring other companies inside its borders.
Spaces for the investors’ exchange are sold out, though the organizing committee could increase the number of booths.
There will be an optional site visit to the Tumurtei zinc mine in Sukhbaatar province. The operation recently began production.
Some of the sponsors for the conference include BHP Billiton, Placer Dome, Anglogold Ashanti, Centerra Gold, and The Northern Miner.
