Following its recent precipitous decline, the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index showed signs of buoyancy with a gain of 71.6 points, closing the June 20-26 trading session at 2.574.2. Average daily trading volumes weakened over the period to just 34.8 million shares.
On the week, 20 companies managed to rally to new annual highs, while 35 explorers sank to new lows.
Goldmarca rose to top trading spot with almost 10.2 million shares changing hands; shares in the company closed up a dime at 66. The company also grabbed an adjacent land package across the border in northern Peru and lined up a $10.3-million financing.
Trading over 6.5 million shares, Plexmar Resources lingered among volume leaders, closing up 9 at 30. Investors are awaiting results from a scissor hole testing the width of the structure hosting high-grade epithermal gold mineralization at its Condor project in southeastern Ecuador.
