Trading on the TSX Venture Exchange showed definite signs of life over the Oct. 10-16 report period as bargain-hunting investors bid up resource stocks battered by the commodity correction of late summer. The S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index gained 56.52 points to close at 2,422.18 over the trading session.
Simberi Gold topped the most-active list after closing a $2.75-million private-placement financing to continue work at its 51%-held Kakanda copper-cobalt project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The company also released updated resource estimates for the project, which includes a tailings resource of 18.4 million tonnes grading 1.22% copper and 0.15% cobalt, and an inferred open-pittable resource of 11.3 million tonnes grading 3.25% copper and 0.2% cobalt. The junior posted a modest gain of 3.5 to close at 15.5.
Plexmar Resources gained a penny to reach 60 on heavy volume. The company is exploring the high-grade Bolsa del Diablo gold project in Peru.
Uranium producer UrAsia Energy posted a gain of 14 to close at $2.60. The company produces about 1.8 million lbs. U3O8 from in situ leach mining operations in Kazakhstan. The company and its joint-venture partners plan to develop and build two additional mines in the former Soviet republic, which currently is the world’s third-largest producer of uranium.
Skeena Resources, a junior exploring a high-grade gold project in Ecuador, held onto fourth place on the most-active list for another week. The company closed at 78, down 2 from a week ago, as investors await drilling results from the El Corazon project.
Axmin gained 14 to $1.04 after reporting an initial inferred resource of 4.9 million tonnes grading 2.5 grams gold per tonne for the Komahun prospect at its Nimini Hills project in Sierra Leone. The company holds a large portfolio of gold projects in Africa, notably in the Central African Republic, where it is a dominant landholder.
Two junior oil and gas companies topped the list of percentage gainers, with Selkirk Metals taking third place with a 48% jump to 77. The company is currently drilling the first of 12 zones of massive sulphide mineralization at its Ruddock Creek property near Revelstoke, B.C. Previous drilling on one of the zones returned 7.3 metres of 10.6% zinc and 2.24% lead.
The largest value gainer was Aurelian Resources, which gained $2.10 to settle at $28.40. The company is drilling a high-grade gold project in Ecuador, and the positive results to date have triggered an exploration boom in the South American nation.
Bear Creek Mining rebounded over the session, adding 75 to close at $9.25. The company is advancing the Corani gold-silver project in Peru, and also holds a large land position in the mineral-rich nation.
Rising gold and copper prices gave a boost to Arizona Star Resource, which climbed 66 to $10.40 over the session. The company holds a 51% interest in the large but low-grade Cerro Casale gold-copper project in Chile.
