Renewed buoyancy was evident in the junior mining-dominated S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index last week, which turned in a gain of 39.09 points over the Oct. 17-23 trading session to close at 2,461.27. Daily trading volumes averaged 52.9 million shares over the week.
On a continued bearish trend, only 17 juniors managed to reach new 52-week highs over the period, while 47 explorers slid to yearly lows.
Canadian-focused diamond hunter Dianor Resources saw more than 18.8 million shares change hands over the week to trade up 14 at 85 per share. Fifteen million shares in the company, previously held by an insider, were sold through the market by his bankruptcy trustee.
Plexmar Resources remained a volume leader, with a 25% gain on volume of 11.4 million shares to 70 per share. The company closed a non-brokered financing of nearly $2 million, earmarked for its northern Peru gold projects.
Oromonte Resources posted a solid 67% gain on the week, closing up 39 at 97 per share with strong volume of almost 7.4 million shares. The company recently delivered high-grade gold intercepts from its Nambija project in southeastern Ecuador and also lined up a $3-million private placement.
UrAsia Energy gained 10% on 6.7 million shares of volume to close the session up 27 at $2.92 per share. The company is producing U3O8 from its Akdala mine in Kazakhstan.
Simberi Mining slid 22% on the week, closing off 4 at 14.5 per share on volume of 5.5 million. Its planned financing has been boosted to $2.75 million. A recent technical report on its 51%-owned Kakanda copper-cobalt project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reviewed indicated tailings resources of 18.4 million tonnes grading 1.22% copper and 0.15% cobalt. Inferred hard rock resources amenable to open-pit mining stand at 11.3 million tonnes of 3.25% copper and 0.2% cobalt.
Skeena Resources continued to trade strong volume with almost 3 million shares changing hands, notching up a penny at 73 per share. Drill results are expected soon from its El Corazon gold project in northern Ecuador.
Shares of Dia Bras Exploration gained 9%, closing at 98 per share on volume of 2.2 million. Pilot mining at the company’s Bolivar copper-zinc project in Chihuahua state, Mexico has been ramping up. Additionally, drilling on its Cusi property has returned high-grade silver intercepts.
Aurelian Resources added an even dollar to its share price to close at $29.50 on volume of almost 1.1 million shares. Additional drilling on its Fruta del Norte epithermal project in southeastern Ecuador recently delivered a 161-metre intersection averaging 6.5 grams gold per tonne.
On trading volume of nearly 1 million shares, Dynasty Metals & Mining gained 84 to close at $4.79 per share. Local approvals have been received for plant construction at its Zaruma gold project, in southern Ecuador, where it plans to build a 500,000-tonne-per-year operation to process high-grade material averaging more than 13 grams gold.
