Two die in mine accident in Mexico

Two miners were killed on Saturday at Dia Bras‘ (DIB-V) Bolivar copper-zinc mine in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Dia Bras reports that the miners died during a “fatal accident” at the mine but did not provide any other details about their deaths.  It’s also unknown whether anyone else was hurt.

The company says it’s working with the authorities who are conducting an investigation into the accident.

“This type of terrible incident should never happen,” said Dia Bras president and CEO, Daniel Tellechea in a statement. “We will look into this tragic incident to find out what happened and see if any changes need to be made to our safety practices or polices.”

Dia Bras has been doing exploration work at the underground mine, located in the Sierra Madre about 250 km southwest of Chihuahua city, while simultaneously conducting a pilot mining program. Ore is shipped to the company’s 850-tonne-per-day Malpaso Mill about 150 km away.
