The Women in Mining (WIM) team laced up for the Run for the Cure in early October. This was WIM’s fourth time participating in the race. But this year for the first time they won the CIBC Corporate Spirit Award for being the top fundraising corporate team at the Vancouver Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) CIBC Run for the Cure.
The national team, which consisted of 59 members from coast to coast, exceeded their $35,000 goal and secured about $50,000 for cancer research. Team member Ilianne Robredo was recognized by the CBCF as one of the top three individual fundraisers for raising close to $11,000.
The WIM network is an informal organization that connects women involved in or associated with the mining resources sector, so they can share knowledge, experiences and relationships to promote growth and diversity. The organization also encourages men and women in the industry to participate in the community, from raising funds for breast cancer research to promoting Career Prep for high school students and more.
