Dorato Resources (DRI-V) has been getting some promising sniffs near the border between Ecuador and Peru.
The company released its latest sampling results from Minera Afrodita, hot on the heels of drill results from a separate target on the project.
The latest news, however, dealt with chip sampling at the Cobrecon target, which confirmed the presence of porphyry mineralization with rock samples grading up to 0.63% copper and 0.48 g/t gold.
The results came out of three widely spaced samples done over 60-metres laterally which assayed between 0.11% and 0.23% copper over 2 to 3 metre-long representative chip samples.
Roughly 300-metres northwest another rock chip sample assayed 0.19% copper over 2 metres, while another sample 300 metres farther north returned 0.63% copper and 0.48 grams gold the company says.
One drill rig is being mobilized for the initial phase of drilling and a total of four initial holes will be drilled to evaluate potential mineralization at depth.
Cobrecon is one of two separate copper-gold porphyry targets in the area, the other being the recently drill tested Lucero target.
On April 6 Dorato released additional results from Lucero that were highlighted by 1.26 grams gold and 0.63% copper from surface to a depth of 28 metres.
The company says drills at the target have continued to intersect consistent gold-copper mineralization to the west of the target and that the target remains open to the west where results from two drill holes are pending.
Minera Afrodita straddles the border between Ecuador and Peru, but lies on the Peruvian side. The project sits in the Cordillera del Condor, which has been one of the most important gold-bearing areas in Ecuador and Peru since pre-Incan times.
On the Ecuador side of the border, historical high-grade, small scale gold production is reported to have reached over 100,000 oz per year. Kinross Gold’s (K-T, KGC-N) promising Fruta del Norte gold deposit lies on the Ecuadorian side.
In Toronto on April 8, Dorato shares were off 8% or 5¢ to 57¢ on 711,000 shares traded.
