Suppliers news: Amec Foster Wheeler gets more work at Copler in Turkey

Amec Foster Wheeler has been awarded the initial phase of an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the sulphide expansion project at Alacer Gold’s (TSX: ASR) 80%-owned Copler gold mine in eastern Turkey.

Under the agreement Amec Foster Wheeler will carry out detailed engineering and procurement work, and prepare an “open book estimate” that will serve as the basis for subsequent project phases, which should all be completed by the end of 2017.

The value of the reimbursable contract has not been disclosed publicly.

In January the contractor was tapped to provide basic design verification services for the same expansion project.

‘We are delighted to have expanded our involvement with the Copler gold mine,’ Amec Foster Wheeler group regional president Roberto Penno said.

Once the mine is expanded, the miner can process 5,000 tonnes of sulphide ore per day over a 22-year mine life, in addition to the existing heap-leach operation, which processes oxide ore.
