CCF PLEDGES TO TAX WEALTHY

The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) has considerable prominence as well as third place in the House of Commons. The bit cry of this party, during the war particularly, has been “conscription of the wealthy.” Of course, the CCF does not want real conscription of wealth. The possessions of its own people are to be left untouched. What the CCFers want, actually, is conscription of the wealth of the wealthy.

PAYMASTER OUTPUT PAYING OFF

Production of Paymaster Consolidated at the end of its current fiscal year set a new high record, The Northern Miner calculates from monthly returns issued by the company. During the period, the mill treated 215,944 tons of ore and recovery amounted to $1,863,741, an average of $8.63 per ton.

ANTIMONY FIND IN THE YUKON

Walter McAlister, pioneer Yukon prospector, reports that development work on the Carline Fissure antimony deposit has disclosed a type known as both residual and solid sulphide. Four hundred pounds of residual substances are now being shipped outside for analysis.

B.C. MANGANESE SHOWING HOLDS TRUE PROMISE

Preliminary work on a manganese showing at Williams Lake, B.C., indicates that it is the best deposit so far uncovered in Canada. Widths of three to five feet of fine stuff show, but proved length is as yet not great, probably no more than 300 ft. The occurrence is in a break that extends for a great distance.

GLENDALE UNEARTHS OLD COPPER FINDS

Glendale Base Metals Syndicate, operating nine miles from Glendate station on the Algoma Central Railway north of Sault Ste. Marie, reports it has 10 men opending up old copper showings. The showings were worked about 40 years agao. A shear zone has been traced 7,500 ft. with copper showings at various points along the length.

SCHEELITE DISCOVERY IN NORTHERN MANITOBA

A new discovery of scheelite has been made recently in the Herb Lake area, northern Manitoba, by Jack Nutt, well known prospector. The occurrence was found in the old surface workings of the Apex mining claim.

MINING INDUSTRY IN DIRE STRAITS

Asserting that the mining industry will find itself in a very difficult position when the war is over, Dr. R.C. Wallace, principal of Queen’s University, told a Commons committee that …. no new companies in either gold or base metals are coming into production, no new money is going into the business, no finds are being made, no prospectors are in the field. The method of taxation he found to be at fault.

MACASSA MINES DIGS DEEP FOR ORE

Macassa Mines is starting on a new level, at 4,250 ft., a depth reached when the inside shaft was extended some months ago to open up levels at 3,875, 4,000, and 4,125 ft. Over 500 ft. of cross-cutting, four or five months’ work, will be required to reach the ore zone.
