Recently completing a reconnaissance basal till sampling program in the central part of its 4,940-acre Vanier-Disson property, located 60 km southeast of the Casa Berardi area, was Achates Resources of Montreal.
The sampling was carried out by Pionjar plugger, with 120 samples collected. Two of the samples were strongly anomalous, assaying 5,760 parts per billion gold and 3,940 ppb at depths of 1 ft and 7 ft respectively. Lower, but anomalous, values were obtained in an additional 25 samples in the same area, ranging from 5 to 540 ppb.
The two high value samples are about 2,600 ft apart and may represent separate zones, company spokesman P. H. Smith reports. Trenching of these sample sites is planned this spring.
