Deep drilling is scheduled to start this winter on the Vassan Twp., Que., claims held by Achates Resources and Fancamp Resources, a private company. The claims are located near Val d’Or. The drilling, which will take place from the ice of De Montigny Lake, is designed to test for mineralization below 1,000 ft.
The property lies between gold deposits controlled by Western Quebec Mines to the east and Corporation Falconbridge Copper to the west.
In Currie and Duplessis twps., also in Quebec, the company has made a surface gold discovery. Values range up to 0.2 oz gold per ton across a 900-ft section of diorite. Achates has the right to earn a 50% interest in the ground. Additional work is also planned for the company’s 100%-owned 49 claims in Desjardins Twp. These claims adjoin the Flordin property, held under option by Sullivan Mines. Sullivan is planning a small scale mining operation on the Flordin property.
Falconbridge is maintaining an option on the company’s 97-claim property in Brongniart Twp., near Chibougamau. The major has spent $200,000 on a program which included several diamond drill holes. More work is planned for 1987, Achates says.
