Acid drainage conference set for April in Pittsburgh

The third international conference on the abatement of acid drainage is scheduled for April 24-29 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

More than 1,200 delegates are expected to attend the conference, which will feature presentations by global experts. Among the topics to be discussed are: prediction and control of acid drainage; waste management; wildlife and habitat restoration; improving productivity of reclaimed mine lands; abandoned mine land; and regulation and policy. An exhibit area is also planned, as are field trips.

Sponsors include Cominco, Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting, Inco, Kennecott, Noranda, Rio Algom and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Staging their annual meetings during the conference will be the Canadian Land Reclamation Association, the American Society of Surface Mining and Reclamation, and the International Affiliation of Land Reclamationists.
