AFRICA SPECIAL — TNK tests Gope prospect

Toronto-based TNK Resources (TNKR-C) has discovered a kimberlite pipe at its 100%-owned Gope prospect in central Botswana.

The company tested five geophysical and kimberlitic indicator mineral targets in the summer of 1996. One of these proved to be the new kimberlite, called target GP96-006.

Microprobe analysis of drill samples was carried out by a South African diamond consultant, who concluded that the data reflect “a potentially moderate grade kimberlite source, possibly between 20 and 40 carats per hundred tonnes.” A program of geophysical surveys and sampling is being developed to test the kimberlite.
