The Zone 20 orebody at the LaRonde gold mine west of Val d’Or, Que., has the potential to increase reserves significantly, Agncio-Eagle Mines (TSE) reports.
The company has calculated a preliminary resource estimate for both the North and South massive sulphide lenses of Zone 20, discovered in early 1993. The South lens contains about 1.45 million tons grading 0.51 oz. gold and 2.86 oz. silver per ton, 0.54% copper and 4.4% zinc. The North lens contains about 4.5 million tons grading 0.07 oz. gold, 4.67 oz. silver, 0.25% copper and 4.09% zinc. The North lens also contains about 3.5 million tons of zinc and silver mineralization, with low copper and gold values.
“Exploration is continuing underground and Zone 20 is open for expansion in all directions,” President Paul Penna said in a release.
To determine the zone’s potential, work will begin soon on a program to deepen the main production shaft to 5,000 ft. and to extend two development drifts east into Zone 20, at a cost of $13.4 million.
Depending on exploration results from this program, the Zone 6 production shaft, under construction, may have to be deepened beyond the 1,600 ft. originally planned. This would provide another underground access route to Zone 20.
