Apollo pours gold at Standard

Vancouver — Denver-based Apollo Gold (APG-T) has poured its first gold-silver dor bar from the Standard mine in northwestern Nevada.

Standard is an open-pit, heap-leach operation, as is the company’s Florida Canyon mine, 4 miles to the north.

Apollo began loading ore on to the leach pads at Standard in October 2004. Production is expected to exceed 40,000 oz. gold in 2005 and eventually ramp up to 80,000-100,000 oz.

The Florida Canyon mine has produced 1.9 million oz. gold in the 17 years in which it has operated. In 2003, the mine cranked out 101,811 oz. gold (plus minor amounts of silver) at a cash cost of US$285 per oz.
