Arthur Thompson Fisher, a mining engineer and principal of numerous mining companies, passed away suddenly in late January in North Vancouver, B.C.
Fisher was born in 1938, in Edinburgh, Scotland; he also lived in South Africa, Toronto and Vancouver.
He received a bachelor of science (mining) degree in 1962 and a diploma in business administration in 1968, both from the University of Edinburgh. He was a chartered engineer (London, England) and a member of the professional engineers associations of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
Fisher began his mining career with Anglo American, and spent 12 years with the firm in various operational and managerial positions. He then moved to Toronto, where he initially worked for David S. Robertson & Associates.
After moving to Vancouver, Fisher joined Erickson Gold Mines and later became a principal of numerous mining companies, including Black Swan Gold Mines, Lysander Minerals, Olympus Pacific Minerals, Andean American Mining, Canadian Western Coal and PMI Ventures.
Arthur Fisher will be remembered for his sense of adventure and for the acumen, energy and drive he brought to all his endeavours.
