For the first nine months of 1989, the company reported net earnings of $172.1 million ($4.08 per share), up 28% from last year’s $134.1 million ($3.18 per share). Sales to Sept 30 totalled $1.7 billion, an increase of 21% over sales for the same period in 1988.
During the third quarter, Asarco averaged $1.24 per lb for refined copper, 36 cents for lead and 81 cents for zinc, compared with $1.05, 34 cents and 67 cents , respectively, for the same period in 1988.
