Asarco provides Missouri grant

A US$150,000 grant over a 5-year period is being provided by Asarco (NYSE) to the University of Missouri-Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy to establish the Asarco Endowment Fund. The fund will be used for undergraduate scholarships and faculty support at the Missouri educational institution.

Asarco has two lead mines, a lead smelter and a refinery in Missouri. The West Fork deposit was discovered in the mid-1950s and became a producer in the early 1980s. The Sweetwater mine was purchased in 1986.
