Sam Jonah, chief executive officer of Ghana-based Ashanti Goldfields, has been awarded an honourary knighthood at St. James’s Palace in London.
The knighthood, which is honourary because the recipient is not a British citizen, recognizes Jonah’s achievements in business and as an international public figure.
Under Jonah’s leadership, Ashanti Goldfields, a single-mine company in 1994, has evolved into a multinational producer with three mines in Ghana and one each in Tanzania, Guinea and Zimbabwe.
Jonah is a member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the International Investment Advisory Council of the Republic of South Africa, and the President’s Investors Advisory Council in Ghana.
He serves on the boards of London PGE producer Lonmin, the Commonwealth African Investment Fund (COMAFIN), and West Africa’s Ecobank Transnational.
Jonah has received several awards and honours, including an honorary PhD from his alma mater, the Camborne School of Mines, and the University of Exeter in the U.K.
