Athabasca Potash Pairs Up With SNC-Lavalin At Burr

Montreal-based engineering and consulting firm SNC-Lavalin Group (SNC-T, SNCAF-O), has been contracted by Athabasca Potash (API-T, ABHPF-O) to provide prefeasibility study services for the company’s Burr potash project in Saskatchewan.

SNC-Lavalin will focus on planning for the surface processing plant and infrastructure. It will also develop capital, operating cost estimates and a preliminary project execution schedule. The company has targeted the third quarter of 2009 for completion of the prefeasibility study.

“We are delighted that SNCLavalin is working with Athabasca on this important milestone. SNCLavalin has been involved in the potash industry for a very long time and has previously provided services to many potash mines in Saskatchewan,” said Dawn Zhou, president and CEO of Athabasca Potash, in a statement.

Athabasca Potash has also engaged other consultants to help it complete work on other aspects of the project’s prefeasibility, including environmental assessment, geology, process technology, underground mine development, resource assessment, shaft, tailings facilities and transportation.

The Burr project is located 107 km east of Saskatoon, Sask.
