Atlas Copco readies new North Bay plant

Atlas Copco’s new exploration drilling and ground engineering manufacturing plant in North Bay, Ont., is expected to be completed by the end of June.

“It is because of quality products and good customer relations that our business is in the position to expand and it has been very important to keep this customer focus throughout the project,” said Jeff Hagar, general manager of the company’s Canadian-based operational unit.

The Swedish equipment giant started building the new plant in May. Equipment and employees will relocate from the current McKeown Avenue site to the new facility on Ferris Road.

The plant is one of several manufacturing plants Atlas Copco’s geotechnical drilling and exploration division has worldwide.

In addition to a new manufacturing plant, Atlas also bought new production equipment for the facility, including a state-of-the-art manufacturing cell that performs automated quality checks. The company also plans to add a new production line to produce Swellex rock bolts.
