Aurora cuts reef at Lansdowne House

Vancouver — Junior Aurora Platinum (ARP-V) has confirmed the discovery of reef-style platinum-palladium mineralization at the 144-sq.-km Lansdowne House property, 180 km northeast of Thunder Bay, Ont.

Collared 120 metres north of hole LH-2 (1.4 metres grading 2.1 grams combined platinum-palladium per tonne), hole LH-21 cut 13.5 metres averaging 1.4 grams combined platinum-palladium from 121.5 metres down-hole. Included in this section was a higher-grade portion running 3.2 grams platinum-palladium over 1.5 metres. The hole was collared in a transition zone between the ultramafic and mafic portions and marks only the second hole drilled along its 5-km strike length.

Previous petrographic studies indicate a Stillwater “reef” style of mineralization. This style of mineralization is associated with a plagioclase layered metagabbro.

Based on the discovery, Aurora aims to complete ground geophysics to define the reef target before drill testing the zone over its entire strike length.

In addition to the reef targets, Aurora has identified vanadium-rich mineralization within semi-massive to massive magnetic layers at the base of the Lansdowne House layered complex. Hole LH-10 cut several massive magnetite zones from 126 to 178 metres down-hole. Selectively sampled intervals contained vanadium pentoxide values ranging from 0.16% to 0.82%. The average grade from vanadium deposits in South Africa and Australia come in at 0.47% to 1.4% vanadium pentoxide. Despite LH-10 being the only hole drilled into the basal unit, geophysical data suggest the zone covers a 10-km strike length. Detailed sampling of the hole is continuing.
