Bachelor Lake improves grade

Above-average grades are being cited as the main reason behind the improved gold production at the Bachelor Lake Gold Mines property near Demaraisville, Que. For the third quarter ended Sept 30, the mine produced 5,914 oz of gold from ore grading 0.172 oz gold per ton. The average grade during the previous six months was 0.136 oz and 0.153 oz in the correpsonding quarter of 1985.

Mill feed from the deeper 7th and 8th levels of the mine is tending to exceed average grades, the company says. Despite the improved grade, the mine continued to lose money. For the 9-month period, the company realized a loss of $1.1 million or 16 cents per share compared to a loss of $294,584 or 4 cents per share in the same period last year.
