A huge base metals deposit has been confirmed in northern Finland. The 50-100-million ton deposit reportedly contains copper, nickel, platinum and gold mineralization.
First discovered in the late 1980s and intensively drilled only late last year, the deposit so far has been drilled to depths of up to 500 metres. For the most part, however, relatively shallow holes up to 50 metres in depth have been drilled. Significantly, mineralization has been found throughout the length of even the deepest (500-metre) hole.
The Geological Survey of Finland points out that the deposit requires considerably more work before its true promise can be estimated.
