BOOKS IN REVIEW — Making mining agreements

Mining Exploration Agreements, by Karl J.C. Harries, Q.C. Published by the Centre for Resources Studies, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ont. K7L 3N6. 342 pages. $40 plus GST.

This new book will be of interest to all professionals involved in negotiating exploration agreements. It is not a legal text nor a book of precedents but, rather, a commentary which offers tips and suggestions relating to the negotiation and drafting of exploration agreements. Although some legal matters are addressed, most topics are discussed in general and “non-lawyerish” terms.

Topics addressed include how agreements are formed, joint venture relationships, confidential information and confidentiality agreements, letters of intent, royalties and farm-in joint-venture agreements. The book should prove a useful reference to all exploration geologists involved in property negotiations.
