Surface sampling at the Gaolong gold deposit in Guanxi province, China, by London-listed explorer Caledon Resources (CDN-L), has shown extensive widths of silicified and brecciated limestone carrying gold grades in the 2- to 3-gram-per-tonne range.
Six channel samples on extensions of known gold mineralization indicated mineralization over surface widths of 10 to 44 metres. The widest intersection graded 2.48 grams gold per tonne, while the two narrowest graded 3.85 grams across 10 metres and 3.29 grams across 12 metres.
Gaolong has several small open pits in operation. The mineralization strongly resembles Carlin-style replacements, hosted in limestone of Permian and Triassic ages. The replacement zones are controlled by brecciation and are strongly silicified.
Caledon is earning an 81% interest in the Gaolong project, 60 km northwest of Tainlin, Guanxi province. Under the terms of the joint venture with the Guangxi Tianlin Gaolong Gold Mine company, Caledon, through its subsidiary Blackwatch Resources, must spend US$1 million on exploration over three years and make cash payments to Guanxi Tianlin totalling US$350,000. A US$5-million payment applies if Caledon puts a mine into production.
