Wayne Smith, manager of purchasing, warehousing and traffic at Inco, will present an overview of e-commerce procurement practices at annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE). The event is slated for Sept. 25 at Ristorante Verdicchio in Sudbury, Ont.
The meeting will consist of the election of directors, as well as reports from the president, treasurer and managing director.

Reclamation workshop
Participants in the Northern Latitudes Mining Reclamation Workshop, scheduled for Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in Whitehorse, Y.T., will visit projects in the Whitehorse copper belt, as well as the defunct Venus mine.
The workshop will bring together industry and First Nations representatives, regulators, and the public to learn about reclamation in Arctic climates.
The Alaska-Yukon Mining Working Group is organizing the event, which is held every other year, in the Yukon and Alaska alternately.

Calcutta hosts conference
About a third of India’s mining machinery is imported, and to highlight this significant market, the Confederation of Indian Industry has organized the Sixth International Mining and Machinery Exhibition (IMME). The event will be held Nov. 6-9 in Calcutta.
The IMME is held every three years. The last featured 108 exhibitors, including the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export, and was held in New Delhi. It attracted roughly 5,000 visitors, half of whom came from Calcutta, the centre of India’s mining supply sector.
With coal, iron-ore, limestone and non-ferrous mines, India has a rich mineral base. Annual production exceeds US$9 billion, contributing 3.5% to the gross domestic product. In recent years, the lowering of tariffs on the importation of mineral products has helped accelerate modernization in the industry.
