Campbell Resources (CCH-T) has resumed milling from the Joe Mann underground gold mine near Chibougamau, Que., at its Camchib mill, about 65 km to the north.
With mining operations at Joe Mann again at full steam, Campbell expects annual production to hit a rate of 1,040 tons per day, five days a week. Milling activities will run four days a week at an average rate of 1,300 tons each day. Recovery rates are pegged at about 93% for gold and 95% for copper. At that rate, Campbell places 2002 annual production at 227,000 tons to produce 56,600 oz. of gold, 19,800 oz. of silver and 1.2 million lbs. of copper.

Operations at Joe Mann were temporarily suspended in mid-November 2000, following problems with the switch to cut-and-fill mining. A year later, the company resumed exploration and development at the mine.
So far, Campbell has recalled 135 of 175 employees. When operations at the mine were halted in November 2000, the mine and mill was staffed by about 250 employees.
Reserves and resources, incorporated into the new mining plan at Joe Mann, are pegged at 630,000 tons grading 0.287 oz. gold per ton gold and 0.25% copper, to be mined over a 33-month period. Overall, resources stand at 1.7 million tons grading 0.326 oz. gold and 0.28% copper. (T.N.M. Nov. 26-Dec. 2/01)
