Raise bore crews of Thyssen Mining Construction of Canada have set a Canadian record.
The site of the feat was the Trout Lake mine in Flin Flon, Man., belonging to Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting.
A 16-ft.-diameter raise, 1,370 ft. in length, was completed March 6 using a Robbins 85R machine and a Baker Hughes reamer.
The reaming, which began on Jan. 5, took 60 days to complete. The raise crews under Walter Elvin, Thyssen’s raise bore superintendent, averaged a daily advance of 22 ft., 10 inches, the equivalent of 13.75 inches per hour, including downtime and mucking.
