Vancouver — Mapping and geochemical sampling by Candente Resource (DNT-V) has resulted in the discovery of a new gold target on the Lunahuana property in central Peru.
Located 1.5-km east of the previously defined gold zone, the new anomaly is marked by soil samples grading up to 1.1 grams gold per tonne. Ten of the 34 samples collected over an 850 metres strike length returned greater than 0.1 gram gold.
The junior has focused on the western most drill target, where gold-in-soils returned up to 0.67 gram gold. Based on a subsequent geophysical survey the target area measures 1.2-by-0.7 km in size.
The property, only 2 hours southeast of Lima, is considered prospective for iron-oxide-copper-gold mineralization similar to Olympic Dam deposit in Australia.
Previous explorers spent US$500,000 on stream sediment sampling, prospecting, geological mapping, rock chip and soil sampling, as well as geophysical surveys. Anomalous copper and gold values were found in stream sediments over a 7-by-2 km area.
