Regional Exploration Manager
Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Limited, the wholley owned exploration subsidiary of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited is seeking a Regional Exploration Manager for North America. This position will be based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The incumbent will be responsible for all technical aspects of base metal exploration in North America including the development of generative exploration programs, evaluation of properties and implementation of modern exploration technologies to ensure programs meet the highest technical standards.
The ideal candidate will have the following combination of experience and academic qualifications:
- Minimum ten years experience in mineral exploration with at least five years in Eastern Canada.
- Experience spanning projects from grassroots to camp scale detailed Exploration.
- Knowledge of modern exploration techniques and deposit models.
- Ph.D. with focus on research into mineral deposits.
- Working experience in general office software in a Windows environment along with exploraiton data management software.
This position reports to the Vice President of Exploration.

Regional Geologist
One year term position, Manitoba Energy and Mines, Geological Services, Thompson. Advertisement No: 196. Salary: $42, 260 to $53,050, dependent on qualifications, plus remoteness allowance. Closing Date: May 28, 1999.
Qualifications: M.Sc. (Ph.D. preferred) with training and extensive experience in both regional and deposit scale mapping, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in structure geology of greenstone belts is essential; experience studying shear-hosted gold deposits is desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently. Supervisory and project management experience. Computer skills are desirable. Valid driver’s license required. Must be willing to travel.
Duties: Manitoba Energy and Mines is seeking a geologist to conduct geological mapping projects in northern Manitoba, based out of the Thompson Regional Office. The incumbent will conduct mapping and structural analysis in the Lynn Lake greenstone belt, concentrating on the kinematic evolution of gold-bearing shear zones.

Chief Electrician
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, and being reported to by the Electrical Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for all electrical, instrumentation activities for the mine including a 123 km long 137 KV power line and all special project work. Duties will include coordination of the department activities, dealing with outside agencies in regards to electrical and instrumentation issues, coordination of all training for the department, establishing planned and preventative electrical maintenance, communications of electrical work with operating departments and planning, budgeting and supervision of all electrical and non-electrical project work.
Applicants should be a licensed electrician or an Electrical Engineer with at least 10 years electrical/instrumentation experience and a minimum of 4 years in a supervisory capacity. Previous experience in an operating mine would be an asset and good communications and interpersonal skills are required.
Mine Engineer
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for computerized mine design, short range planning and operational mine engineering duties.
Applicants should be a graduate mining engineer from a recognized university with a minimum of 3 years open pit mining experience and computerized mine engineering skills. Previous experience with Gemcom mining software and Microsoft Office would be considered and asset and good communications and interpersonal skills are required.
Huckleberry Mine is an open pit copper/moly mine located 120 km’s southwest of Houston, B.C. We are a remote mine where the majority of our employees work 4 days on and 4 days off, 365 days per year. Both positions work a 4 x 3 schedule onday to Thursday. While at the minesite, all meals and accommodations are provided free of charge to employees.

Mineral Development Engineer
Mineral Development Division, Department of Mines and Energy, Natural Resources Building, 50 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John’s, Newfoundland.
DUTIES: Assists in the planning and implementation of policies and regulations governing existing and prospective mining operations; monitors technical and economic factors affecting the mining industry; provides input on proposed related programs, long-range plans and objectives; makes economic, financial and technical recommendations on all aspects related to the mining industry.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of underground and open-pit mining, geological/mining computer programming/modelling, statistical programming and environmental assessment is essential. Candidates must be able to work independently and possess analytical, organizational and good oral, written and public presentation communications skills, together with, the ability to formulate, develop and implement policies and procedures. The above qualifications would normally have been acquired and demonstrated through extensive experience in engineering, operations and planning roles related to both open-pit and underground mining operations, as well as, a strong background working with mining and environmental regulations supplemented by graduation from an accredited university or technical college with a Degree in Mining Engineering.
