CHALLENGING JOBS IN THE ARABIAN SAHARA

Saudi Company for Precious Metals (SCPM) is a limited liability company, owned 50/50 by Ma’aden, a Saudi Arabian State owned mining corporation, and Boliden Mineral AB of Sweden, a company within Boliden Ltd (TSE). SCPM operates a gold mine at Sukhaybarat in the Quassim Province, Saudi Arabia.

The Operation comprises of an open pit mine with an annual production of approximately 3 million tonnes of ore and waste as well as two process facilities; one 3-stage crushing plant, one grinding/agitation leach plant and one heap leaching plant. The two leaching plants together have an annual throughput of 1,500,000 tonnes.

For the Sukhaybarat Mine, SCPM is seeking candidates for the following positions.

Assistant Mill Superintendent

Shall take operational responsibility for the processing plants, chemical laboratory, water treatment plant and tailings handling systems at the mine. Reports to the Mill Superintendent based at Sukhaybarat.

Besides the operational responsibility (plant production planning and follow-up, budget work, and cost follow-ups), the Assistant Mills superintendent also takes an active role in ongoing development projects within the company. The site organization comprises about 105 persons of which 35 are in the mill department. It is important that the candidate is a good team-builder and motivator for his staff.

The candidate shall have at least 10 years experience, preferably in gold processing, out of which a minimum of 4 years in managerial position. As the position implies daily contacts with a multi-national workforce, a good knowledge of the English language is an essential requirement.

Mill General Foreman

Shall supervise personnel in the mill section, which is comprised of 3 Shift-foremen, 20 Operators and 2 Mechanics.

The Mill General Foreman also takes an active role in crushing, grinding, CIL and Heap Leach processing in addition to the water treatment, elution and refinery.

The candidate shall have at least 6 years experience in grinding and crushing circuit. Experience in CIL, Cyanide knowledge, maintenance of process equipment such as relining of crushers/mills is valuable. Able to conduct/coordinate safety, fire and cyanide training for subordinates. As the position implies daily contacts with a multi-national workforce, a good knowledge of the English language is an essential requirement.

Preliminary starting date of employment for position 1 is before end of 1999 and for position 2 is July 1, 1999.

The company offers a good basic salary and benefit package, however please indicate your salary expectation with your resume. Also, the company provides 4 return trips to the point of origin each year. The rotation is 11 weeks on site for every 2 weeks of vacation. The camp at the Sukhaybarat mine is developed for single status accommodation only.
