Sous la supervision de l’ingnieur en chef de mine. I’ingnieur en planification – mine ciel ouvert aura la responsabilit de planifier tous les travaux d’ingnierie associs l’exploitation et d’apporter une aide technique la coordination des activits minres.

Le titulaire doit tre un bon communicateur afin de faciliter le droulement des travaux au sein du groupe minier S.M.R.Q. de mme qu’avec le sous-traitant. Le candidat aura la responsabilit de s’assurer que les objectifs soient atteints.

Le candidat idal devra dtenir un diplme d’ingnieur minier ou de technicien minier jumel respectivement plus de cinq (5) et dix (10) ans d’exprience dans l’exploration de mine ciel ouvert. Une bonne expertise des logiciels Data-mine et A-mine, la dtention d’un permis d’explosifs et d’un certificat de formation modulaire du travailleur minier ainsi que le bilinguisme (franais-anglais) sont des atouts importants. Le candidat devra dmontrer d’excellentes aptitudes en communication et en organisation.

L’horaire de travail suivra une rotation de quatre (4) semaines sur le site et deux (2) semaines hors site.

Assistant Professor – Structural Geology

The Department of Earth Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Structural Geology effective July, 1999. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, supervise research students and maintain a vigorous research programme. The person will have expertise in structural analysis, a strong commitment to field based research, and expertise in or a desire to work on ore deposit related structural problems. It is important that the candidate demonstrate an ability to complement and expand ore deposit research and teaching within the Department and the University’s Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC).

Mineral Deposits and Precambrian Geology are a strength of the Department at the research and post-graduate level. In 1998, a NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair in Mineral Exploration was established in the Department and a Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) was created at the University. MERC carries out applied and fundamental research into the genesis of magmatic and hydrothermal ore deposits in Canada and internationally. Laurentian University is located in one of Canada’s largest mining centres. As well, the Ontario Geological Survey and the Ontario Geoscience Laboratories are both located on its campus; the latter houses state-of -the-art analytical facilities for geoscience research.

Faculty Position in Mining Engineering

The Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in Mining Engineering. The appointment is intended to start January 1, 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates must possess a B.Eng. and Ph.D degree in Mining Engineering, or a closely related field and must be committed to excellence in teaching (at the undergraduate and graduate level) and research. Registration or eligibility for immediate registration as a professional engineer will be given preference. An outstanding research potential and demonstrated research capability in any area of mining engineering but preferably in one of the following fields is required: surface or underground mining systems, mine planning and design, mine equipment selection and maintenance, rock fragmentation and mining automation. Capability to develop strong links with industry and sponsored research is essential. Recent Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply.

Operations Metallurgist

In this position in the Concentrator Department you will be responsible for assigned development and research projects to maintain and enhance the metallurgical efficiency of the 2,800 TPD Concentrator. You will work closely with operators, tradespeople and analytical staff providing techn
ical assistance where required. Routine duties will include: metallurgical accounting, instrumentation calibration and environmental monitoring.

In addition to a B.Sc. in Metallurgical or Mineral Process Engineering and a minimum of 4 years’ operating experience in mineral processing facilities, ideally, you have: a detailed working knowledge of on-stream analyzer systems, comminution, lead/zinc floatation and dewatering, an understanding of data processing systems for the development and implementation of metallurgical improvements, good problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have (4) year university degree, preferably in Mining Engineering, and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive managerial and/or educational experience and a thorough understanding of post secondary issues. A four (4) year degree in Business/Economics may also be considered. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills are necessary. A technological background and international experience will be considered assets.
