CE Zinc union accepts contract

The 571 unionized employees at Canadian Electrolytic Zinc (CE Zinc) have voted 89% in favor of a new 3-year collective agreement.

Under the terms of the new contract, effective Nov. 1, the average wage will rise to $19.18 per hour from $17.65 per hour by Nov. 1, 1994. All fringe and pension benefits have also been enhanced.

Management and members of the United Steelworkers of America have agreed to establish a permanent training committee.

Quebec-based CE Zinc, a subsidiary of Noranda Minerals, is one of the largest zinc producers in the world with a 230,000-tonne-per-year capacity and more than 700 employees.
