Junior Chivor Emerald (CHIV.U-C) has completed driving of the new Dixon adit at the Oriente emerald mine in Colombia.
Chivor owns 80% of the mine and has been expanding the operation while continuing to develop older sections.
The adit intersects the main area of mineralization, Unit V, at a deep level, and the company hopes to find new emerald-bearing veins there. Historically, Unit V has accounted for 20% of Colombia’s total emerald production.
Chivor plans to develop a series of levels in the footwall. Crosscuts will be driven about every 40 metres, with underground drilling scheduled to follow.
The company holds options to acquire 90% interests in 19 properties in the region surrounding the mine. Also, it can acquire an 80% interest in the nearby Jagua 1 and Jagua 2 mining areas.
Meanwhile, Chivor is conducting regional exploration and examining old workings outside the Oriente mine.
