Shares of Hucamp Mines posted a gain of 30cents to close at 40cents for the week ended Feb. 20, after being dormant at the 10-15cents range in recent months. The company holds ground adjacent to Noranda’s Geco base metal mine in northern Ontario where exploration efforts are being stepped up to find new reserves. A deep exploration drift extending on to the Hucamp claims is the focus of more exploration work, and more drilling is to be done. There were three trades involving 12,000 shares of the Hucamp issue. Several junior gold exploration stocks drifted a little lower this week in light trading. Shares of First Canadian Gold fell by 5cents to close at 65cents on volume of 95,000 shares. There were five trades in First Canadian, which is controlled by geologist Jim Gill of Aur Resources.
Lacklustre drill results released from the Shabumeni gold property being explored by Milestone Resources in northwestern Ontario sent that issue lower by 3cents to close at 10cents on volume of 63,500 shares.
Recently signing an option to acquire a 50% stake in the Spud Valley gold project in British Columbia from McAdam Resources is McNickel. Its shares were better by 5cents with the close at 25cents after three trades.
Junior gold miner Dayton Porcupine gained a dime with two trades advancing its price to $1.10. Dayton operates the Ross underground gold mine, east of Timmins, Ont.
