Company director fined in accident

A company director, along with the company itself and a supervisor, has been convicted of an offence, the first under Ontario’s revised Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The accused pleaded guilty recently to failing to ensure that electrical lighting equipment was suitable for use in a confined space during a spray-painting application. One worker suffered severe burns following an explosion.

Raglan Industries of Oshawa was fined $55,000; director Robert Michel, $10,000; and supervisor David Michel, $5,000.
