Consultant buys more Orvana

Merwin Bernstein, a Chile-based geological consultant and director of Orvana Minerals (TSE), boosted his stake in the aggressive junior exploration company at the end of June.

According to the Ontario Securities Commission’s OSC Bulletin, Bernstein (through Explorations Minerals NCE) privately bought 158,842 shares of Orvana at $1.50 per share to hold 178,842.

Orvana, which has been trading at close to $3 recently, has several projects on the go around the globe.

President Neil Hillhouse says the recent advance in the share price may be a belated reaction to a June 11 press release which outlined Orvana’s option to purchase a 14% interest in the San Bernardino property in Bolivia, a potentially bulk-minable gold deposit.

“Some analysts have finally recognized the significance of this,” he says. Other transactions completed in May or June are as follows:

American Barrick Resources (TSE) — Brian Meikle, officer, exercised 10,000 options at $7.53 and sold 10,000 shares at $28.50 to hold 30,080 shares and 40,000 options.

Breakwater Resources (TSE) — Harold Shipes, officer, sold 488,500 at an undisclosed price to hold 26.3 million.
