Results from three drill programs are enabling Corner Bay
Minerals (TSE) to advance several properties in Quebec and
northern Mexico.
Near Chibougamau, Que., provincial Crown corporation Societe Quebecoise d’exploration miniere (Soquem) drilled the A and B zones of Corner Bay’s Group One Outer Block property. The 6-hole program tested the potential of two parallel, copper-bearing structures, with hole 95-12 averaging 5.45% copper over 2.4
metres and 2.01% copper over 2.01 metres.
Stepout drilling extended the known strike length of
mineralization from 600 to 1,200 metres. Mineralization remains open at depth and in both directions along strike. Later this month, Soquem will carry out deep drilling.
Nearby, at the Inner Block property, Corner Bay, together with MSV Resources (TSE) and Cache Explorations (ME), are about to sink a shaft. Plans call for copper ore to be processed at MSV’s Rand mill, with Corner Bay receiving a production royalty.
Meanwhile, in Mexico’s Chihuahua state, nine holes were drilled on a group of concessions pooled by Corner Bay and the Mexican subsidiary of Noranda (TSE). Situated in the San Martin area, the holdings are underlain by two anomalies which are thought to have good potential for copper oxide mineralization.
One hole, drilled on the northwestern flank of the 600-metre-long eastern anomaly, intersected copper oxide mineralization which averaged 0.65% copper over 33.5 metres. The horizon remains open along strike in both directions, as well as downdip.
Three holes were drilled to test the western anomaly, which
measures 1,050 metres long by 350 metres wide. One hole, drilled on the structure’s southwestern edge, intersected 0.54% copper over 30.5 metres, while two others returned assays of 0.4% copper over 12.2 metres and 0.2% copper over 88.9 metres.
Despite these encouraging results, Noranda has decided to drop its option because of a lack of sulphide mineralization. Corner Bay will retain a 100% interest in the concessions and continue to explore the area for large, open-pit, copper oxide deposits amenable to heap leaching and solvent extraction-electrowinning.
Elsewhere in Chihuahua, on the Las Vigas copper oxide joint
venture, Dragon Gem (VSE) has completed 1,000 metres of drilling.
The program tested one of five target areas along a 27.5-km-long section of red bed stratigraphy. Although copper oxide
mineralization was intersected in each of the 20 holes, assay values were low and Dragon Gem has notified Corner Bay it will not proceed with the earn-in. The latter will remain whole owner and continue exploring the four remaining targets.
