Mining at the Santa Gertrudis project, owned by Campbell Resources (CCH-N), ended in late 1997, though gold production will continue until all the ore remaining on leach pads is processed. The company is exploring a gold-in-soil anomaly south of the mine and is applying to expand its regional holdings by acquiring 900 ha adjoining Santa Gertrudis to the north. Campbell plans to resume mining once it has proven reserves of 200,000 contained ounces. It has already outlined a resource of 1.8 million tonnes grading 2.39 grams gold per tonne, equivalent to 140,000 contained ounces, in several deposits.
