Crew plans more holes at Roros

Crew Development (CRU-T) has completed 1,788 metres of drilling in a 21-hole grassroots zinc exploration program in the Roros district of central Norway.

The holes tested three targets, and confirmed the existence of extensive stratiform sulphide mineralization. The drilling failed to cut economic mineralization, but the company says the results demonstrate the potential for economic mineralization in the area.

Six shallow holes totalling 534 metres tested the Tjonnvollmyran target, and cut massive to semi-massive sulphide mineralization up to 13 m thick along 800 metres of strike and downdip 400 metres to the west. The best results (1.4 metres averaging 2.8% zinc equivalent) were obtained from the lowermost part of the sulphide zone. The overall mineralization is sub economic, but given the zoned nature of the massive sulphide deposits, these results are regarded as promising.

Nine holes tested the Klinkenberg mine target, and returned narrow intervals of high-grade zinc mineralization running up to 17.8% zinc. Copper values hit up to 9.9% copper. Intervals are generally less than 1 metre. Drillhole 7 cut a copper-rich interval grading 5% copper and 0.6% zinc over 4 metres above the zinc mineralization at the old Klinkenburg Mine target. High-grade zinc mineralization at Klinkenberg outcrops over a strike length of 200 metres near the historic workings, and can be traced for another 270 metres in drill intersections and underground workings.

Six holes amounting to 643 metres at the Rosjoen target cut several zones with disseminated zinc and copper mineralization. Thicknesses range up to about 2 metres. Assay results are pending.

Further exploration is planned for 2002.

Also during the latest program, 40 new target areas have been identified, mapped and surveyed by ground geophysical methods, and over 900 new deep soil samples have been collected and assayed. Several of the new targets have coincidental geophysical and geochemical anomalies, which will be the target of follow-up drilling.

One such target is situated north of the Killingdal trend named from Killingdal mine cropping out in the south end of the trend. The mine was the last in operation in the Roros district and churned out about 3 million tonnes of zinc-copper ore averaging about 5% zinc and 1,7% copper.
