CROSS-CUTS World’s largest flotation unit

Kennecott’s concentrator at Copperton, Utah, is getting 33 new 3,000-cu-ft flotation machines this year to recover copper, molybdenum and gold from the Bingham Canyon open pit copper mine. The new concentrator, which is part of an overall modernization of the the property, will treat 77,000 tons of ore per day — the world’s largest flotation unit. Wemco Division of Baker Mining Equipment Co., which is supplying the huge floation units, says it developed them using scale- up technology introduced on earlier machines.
