Cyprus Amax coal mine sets record

Twentymile Coal, a subsidiary of Cyprus Amax Minerals, has set a world record for monthly coal production.

The underground operation in western Colorado produced 893,108 tons of coal last month, breaking the previous record of 781,355 tons set in April by another company.

The mine, which employs 361 people, produced more than 5.8 million tonnes of coal in 1995, and production this year is expected to top 6.5 million tons.

The mine produces coal for utility customers, including
